Carlos Alcaraz: After defeating 2021 finalist Matteo Berrettini in the fourth round, top seed Carlos Alcaraz cemented his position as the man most likely to deny Novak Djokovic another Wimbledon title.

The 20-year-old is one of the favourites at SW19, but his four-set fight with Nicolas Jarry over the weekend demonstrated to the other men’s draw players that he is far from invincible on grass at this juncture of his career. Meanwhile, the resurgent Berrettini had shown his talent with a straight-sets win against Alexander Zverev and had come in hoping for a great upset.
The match began with serve, with the audience and press box both packed tightly for what was one of the most eagerly awaited matchups of the tournament thus far.

Both players were able to combine power with precise strokes, but for more than half of the first set, they were evenly matched and unable to force a break.
However, the 27-year-old Italian capitalised on the world No. 1’s indecision, breaking for 5-3 and serving out the set on deuce.
Alcaraz got a break point in the first game of the second set, but Berrettini maintained service and the Spaniard began to show signs of impatience.
